Being an artist in today's world

To me, being an artist today means you have to concern yourself with how worrying it is with the fast rise of AI, especially in the creative industry. People who aren't involved with the developing of creative outlets don't realise how big of a problem this is and how big its effect is.

The way it works
AI is trained by being fed information from the internet which includes a mixture of factual information, false information, photos and videos. AI art generators utilise existing artwork that's posted online by billions of artists world wide to "make" an image that looks like it was drawn by someone, or a video that looks like it was animated by someone. The problem with this is that people are doing this and making profit from it, calling themselves "AI artists". Which is unethical and disrespectful to the actual artists that got their work stolen from.

The big problem with this
The people that are profiting off this cannot be sued of plagiarism, as there aren't proper laws set to keep up with how fast this technology is rising, therefor these "AI artists" can get away with profiting and scamming people saying that it's their creation. Another problem with this that it is highly environmentally damaging with the millions of weekly users worldwide, with each search using up too much energy, and also water to cool their systems.

Hope may not be completely lost...
There is a whole lot of problems with AI, however, in my opinion, we are also witnessing some of the most beautiful artworks to date such as the Spider-Verse movies, which are truly showing why artists do what they do, why big projects need to be delayed sometimes, why it takes a whole lot of money to produce these artworks. All things that don't matter to people using AI generators, because there isn't meaning or thought behind those generated images or videos. There's no soul behind it, which is why actual art will always be more valuable and meaningful. An example of this can be seen from the image above; This was a Half Alive concert that I went to and I wanted to capture the moment with this drawing, the colours are chosen to replicate the serene vibe of the concert, in the perspective that I was in, that way the viewer can get a similar feeling of my experience.
